HELP SOMEBODY by Earth, Wind and Fire, 1971

No man should have to face
His problems alone, alone, alone
Reach out and help the weak man
Make him strong, strong, strong
I want to help somebody
I'd like to help you, you, you
Now don't that make you wanna
Help somebody too, too, too

The love you give
Might help somebody live
So give of yourself
Go out and help somebody else
Your helping hand will make you a better man
Do wah, do way, let love prevail

If we all stand together
We'll all stand tall, tall, tall
We wouldn't let each other
Tumble and fall, fall, fall
Now let's all reach down together
And lift somebody up, up, up
Give a little love and kindness
It won't take much, much, much

The love you give
Might help somebody live
So give of yourself
Go out and help somebody else
Your helping hand will make you a better man
Do wah, do way, let love prevail

Reach out your hand and help somebody
Reach out your hand and help somebody
Today

Reach out your hand and help somebody
Reach out your hand and help somebody
Today

Surprises(ザ・ラストポエッツ 1970年)

"SURPRISES" by The Last Poets, 1970
Poem by Jalaluddin Mansur Nuriddin

Surprises
Surprises
Night falls, and the sun rises
And I dig niggers, niggers, niggers in all shades and sizes
And the sun, the sun, it plays on my eyes
And I hear the hungry cries
Of black children
Their stomachs turned inside out
Their minds full of fear and doubt
Being told lies
Being watched by spies
With loophole proof alibis
While another nigga, nigga, nigga in Vietnam dies
But the sun still rises, and night still falls
And junkies still OD in ghetto halls
And Miles, he still blows
And the oppression still grows
And where it stops, nobody knows
And black people cry out in vain
Against injustice and pain
To one whose mind is insane
And it doesn't need to rain
For their tears have poured for years
And Uncle Tom, Tom, Tom
He watches over us, and under us, and around us, and through us
Night in and day out
And we are loved for being ignorant
And hated if we are militant
But promises can do nothing for me
It's time to set ourselves free
But time marches on
And the racists grow strong
Stronger than Ajax
And niggers want to be free
But they still watch TV Even though they can't see
And our Chinese brothers don't cop no plea
For they are hip to unity
Isn't that the way we want to be?
But the man watches amused
Because black people are confused
Conquered and divided
Tricked and undecided
And the good guys are dead
With slugs through their head
But the night still falls, and the sun still rises
And the man, the man, the man is still full of trickery
Surprise, niggers!

TWO LITTLE BOYS by the Last Poets, 1970
poem by Abiodun Oyewole

Have you seen the skinny little boy that chases the white ghost at night?
(Have you seen the little boy?)
Face fucked up
Tracks in his arm
and his mind blown
His Momma somewhere drinking
and talking about survival
Pop's in jail or downtown in the Y
The little boy chases the white ghost with his friend
And they get high
And they get high
Like cloud nine
Where everything is fine
(No responsibility)
Have you seen the two little boys running past you
With a lady's purse?
They stole a black woman's purse
The other day
Yesterday, today, tomorrow
Face fucked up
Tracks in their arms
Eyes popping out of their skulls
And their minds blown
And they get high
And they get high
Talking about tripping
Talking bout flying
Talking bout getting high
Getting high

Have you seen two little boys sitting in Sylvia's?
Stuffing chicken and cornbread down their tasteless mouths
Trying to revive a dying heart
Shrinking lungs and wasted minds
Have you seen the sickness of our people?
And all the while we parade around
In robes of our ancestors
And wisdoms of the universe
And all the while there are children dying
Chasing the white ghost
Whitey is dying and his fucking ghost is killing us

Oh beautiful black hands
Reach out and snatch the death out of the youth of our nation
Oh beautiful black minds
Create, create the world for children to play with life
And not with death
Oh beautiful black brothers and sisters
Come together and create life
Come together and create love
Come together and create, create
Come together and create, create

Wake Up Niggers

"Wake Up Niggers"
Poem by Alafia Pudim

Night descends as the sun's light ends
And black comes back to blend again
And with the death of the sun
Night and blackness become one
Blackness being you
Peeping through the red, the white, and the blue
Dreaming of boss black civilizations that once flourished and grew
Hey! Wake up, niggers, or y'all through.

Drowning in the puddle of the white man's spit
As you pause for some drawers in the midst of shit
And ain't got nothing to save your funky ass with!
You cool, fool, sipping on a menthol cigarette around midnight
Rapping about how the Big Apple is out of sight
When you ain't never had a bite
Who are you fooling, me, you?
Wake up, niggers, or y'all through.

In Uptown two roaches are drowning in each other's piss
In Downtown interracial lovers secretly kiss
While junkies are dreaming of total bliss
Somewhere in the atmosphere far away from here
Beyond realms of white dimensions
Gathered by suppressed intentions
As their cries, cries, cries go unrecognized
Except by their keeper, the Grim Reaper
"Save me a corner", you shout as the lights go out
'Cause you ain't paid your electric bill
And the rats and roaches move on in for the kill
As your lips struggle to drain that last drop from the wine bottle
And you roll snake eyes, never to realizing that you blew
Wake up, niggers, or you're all through.

Sitting in the corner with your minds tied to your behinds
Bonafide members of Niggers Anonymous
Never knowing which way you're going - pimping off life
Turning tricks to slick dicks, with candy asses
"All masses will be held tomorrow morning for the Late Great black man."
"Amen."
You niggers, understand?
Up against the wall
Black Maryland Farmers, or I'll blow you away
And you'll never live to see the light of day
And the nightstick, the nightstick, it glides gracefully upside your head
That's right, brothers and sisters, you living dead
When the cock crows, and the night goes
And it saves your ass in the nick of time
As you wake up and you start to find
Yourself, laying up in bed - scratching your ass and head
Trying to remember from where you recall this Vermeer nightmare
That always leave you feeling blue
But you still can't place the Man's face as hard as you try to
Hey! Wake up, niggers, or we all through.

Are You Ready

"ARE YOU READY"
Poem written by David Nelson
Performed by Nina Simone at Harlem Cultural Festival, 1969

Are you ready, Black people?

Are you ready?
Are you ready?
Are you ready?
Are you ready, Black people?
Are you ready, Black people?
Are you really ready?
Ready to do what is necessary?
Ready to do what is necessary to do?
Are you ready Black man?
Black woman are you ready?
Are you really really ready?
Hear me good now
Hear me good now

Are you ready to kill if necessary?
Is your mind ready?
Is your body ready?
Are you ready to do what you have to do to create life?

Are you ready to smash White things?
To burn buildings are you ready?
Are you ready to build Black things?
Are you ready to give yourself,
Your love,
Your soul,
Your heart,
To create life?
Are you ready to create out of nothing?
Are you ready, Black people?
Are you ready?
Are you ready?
Black man,
Black youth,
Black woman,
Black everybody,
Are you really, really, really ready?

I ain't finished yet
You got to get your-own-self together, you see?
You got to ask yourself these questions

Are you ready to call the wrath of Black Gods?
Black magic
to do you bidding?
Are you ready to use your whatever is necessary?
Let me hear you say it

Like this. . .
Yes, I am ready
Yes, I am ready
Are you ready to groove?
Are you ready to listen to all the beautiful Black voices,
of beautiful Black feeling,
the Beautiful Black waves,
Moving in beautiful air?v Are you ready to love Black,
Always loving Black?
Are you ready, Black people?
Are you ready?

Are you ready to listen?
Are you ready to hear?
Are you ready to feel?
Are you ready to do?
Black people, are you ready?

Most important, are you ready to change?
I said, are you ready to change?
Are you ready to change yourself?
You what I'm talking about?
You what I'm talking about?
Are you ready to go inside yourself and change yourself?

Are you ready to change
To a really groovy, groovy Black person?
Are you really ready to change yourself
Turn yourself inside out, through and through,
And make yourself through and through,
And through,
And through,
And through,
Real Black person?
I said, are you ready?

"NIGGERS ARE SCARED OF REVOLUTION" by The Last Poets, 1970

Niggers are scared of revolution
But niggers shouldn't be scared of revolution
Because revolution is nothing but change
And all niggers do is change

Niggers come in from work and change into pimping clothes
And hit the streets to make some quick change
Niggers change their hair from black to red to blond
And hope like hell their looks will change
Niggers kill other niggers just because one didn't receive the correct change
Niggers change from men to women, from women to men
Niggers change, change, change
You hear niggers say, "Things are changing? Things are changing?"
Yeah, things are changing
Niggers change into "Black" nigger things
"Black" nigger things that go through all kinds of changes
The change in the day that makes them rant and rave "Black Power, Black Power!"
And the change that comes over them at night
As they sigh and moan, "White thighs, white thighs"
Niggers're always goin' through bullshit change
But when it comes for real change
Niggers are scared of revolution.

Niggers are actors, niggers are actors
Niggers act like they are in a hurry
To catch the first act of the "Great White Hope"
Niggers try to act like Malcolm
And when the white man doesn't react toward them like he did Malcolm
Niggers want to act violently
Niggers act so cool and slick, causing white people to say
"What makes you niggers act like that?"
Niggers act like you ain't never seen nobody act before
But when it comes to acting out revolution
Niggers say, "I can't dig them actions!"
Niggers are scared of revolution

Niggers are very untogether people
Niggers talk about getting high and riding around in L's
Niggers should get high and ride to hell
Niggers talk about pimping
Pimping that, pimping what
Pimping yours, pimping mine
Just to be pimping is a hell of a line
Niggers are very untogether people
Niggers talk about the mind, talk about:
"My mind is stronger than yours," "I got that bitch's mind uptight!"
Niggers don't know a damn thing about the mind, or they'd be right
Niggers are scared of revolution

Niggers fuck, niggers fuck, fuck, fuck
Niggers love the word fuck
They've been told so fuckin' cute, then they fuck you around
The first thing they say when they're mad is, "Fuck it!"
You play a little too much with them, they say "Fuck you"
When it's time to TCB
Niggers are somewhere fucking
Try to be nice to them, they fuck over you
Niggers don't realize while they doin' all this fucking
They're getting fucked around
And when they do realize it's too late
So niggers just get fucked up
Niggers talk about fucking
Fuckin' that, fuckin' this, fuckin' yours, fuckin' my sis
Not knowing what they're fucking for
They ain't fucking for love and appreciation
Just fucking to be fucking
Niggers fuck White thighs, Black thighs
Yellow thighs, Brown thighs
Niggers fuck ankles when they run out of thighs
Niggers fuck Sally, Linda and Sue
And if you don't watch out, niggers will fuck you!
Niggers would fuck "fuck" if it could be fucked
But when it comes to fucking for revolutionary causes
Niggers say, "Fuck revolution!"
Niggers are scared of revolution

Niggers are players, niggers are players, are players
Niggers play football, baseball and basketball
While the white man is cuttin' off their balls
When the nigger's play ain't tight enough
To play with some black thighs
Niggers play with white thighs
To see if they still have some play left
And when there ain't no white thighs to play with
Niggers play with themselves
Niggers tell you they're ready to be liberated
But when you say "Let's go take our liberation"
Niggers reply, "I was just playin'!"
Niggers are playing with revolution and losing
Niggers are scared of revolution

Niggers do a lot of shootin'
Niggers do a lot of shootin'
Niggers shoot off at the mouth
Niggers shoot pool, niggers shoot craps
Niggers cut around the corners and shoot down the street
Niggers shoot sharp glances at White women
Niggers shoot dope into their arm
Niggers shoot guns and rifles on New Year's Eve
A new year that is coming in
Where white police will do more shooting at them
Where are niggers when the revolution needs some shots?
Yeah, you know, niggers are somewhere shootin' the shit
Niggers are scared of revolution.

Niggers are lovers, niggers are lovers are lovers
Niggers love to see Clark Gable make love to Marilyn Monroe
Niggers love to see Tarzan fuck all the natives
Niggers love to hear the Lone Ranger yell, "High ho, Silver!"
Niggers love commercials, niggers love commercials
How niggers love commercials:
"You can take niggers out of the country, but
You can't take the country out of niggers"
Niggers are lovers, are lovers, are lovers
Niggers loved to hear Malcolm rap, but they didn't love Malcolm
Niggers love everything but themselves
But I'm a lover too, yes I'm a lover too
I love niggers, I love niggers, I love niggers
Because niggers are me, and I should only love that which is me
I love to see niggers go through changes
I love to see niggers act
I love to see niggers make them plays and shoot the shit
But there is one thing about niggers I do not love
Niggers are scared of revolution
